Brendon Todd will go for his third straight tour victory this week at the RSM Classic. The last player to do that was none other than Tiger Woods all the way back in 2006. Todd is currently in first place in the very early FedEx Cup standings, and the turkey will taste much better next week if he’s able to hold that spot heading into December.
Last year’s RSM Classic winner was Charles Howell III, and Howell currently has 30-1 odds of defending his title. The three players ahead of Howell in the betting market are Webb Simpson, the favorite at 9-1, Billy Horschel at 17-1 and Matt Kuchar at 23-1. Last weeks’ winner Brendon Todd is listed at 43-1 as the 10th most likely player to win per the betting market.
The winner of this tournament in 2017 was a name that likely no one outside of his immediate family would recognize, Austin Cook. It was Cook’s only tour victory of his short career, and it was an impressive one, with four rounds all under 70. Cook’s odds to repeat are 76-1.
The RSM Classic is held at the Sea Island Seaside Course in Saint Simons Island, Georgia. The course is a combination of a seaside, and a plantation-style course. It’s relatively young, having been founded in 2010, and is a 70-par course. The first tee times of the day start at 9:15 eastern standard time.
After the RSM, the PGA Tour will head to the Hero World Challenge, a smaller tournament that not many of the world’s best players will play in. The following week, beginning on December 12, the Tour will head to Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia for the President’s Cup. Brooks Koepka was recently scratched from that international showdown, with Rickie Fowler taking his place. It is expected that the defending champion United States will remain the favorites despite losing Koepka.
